Just follow these directions and in no time at all you will be enjoying your adventure with us.

Approximate travel times...

From Wellington Airport - 30mins
From Central Wellington - 20mins
From Hutt Valley - 25mins
From Johnsonville - 10mins

Directions

If coming from Wellington, turn off at Johnsonville turn-off.
Drive through past McDonalds to the second roundabout.
Turn left onto Ironside road - this takes you into Ohariu Valley.

If coming from north, turn off at Johnsonville and turn right at the first roundabout.
Then turn left at the second sign post, into Ironside Road.( do not take Ohariu Road here )
Follow Ironside road down into Ohariu Valley past Mc Clintock . Drive to the crossroads.(7 minutes down )
Go straight through. You are now on Takarau Gorge Road. We are 184 Takarau Gorge Rd,( sign posted to Makara ) which is approximately 1.84 kms down from the crossroads, on your right.

If coming from Makara once through the gorge you go over a wee bridge with a woolshed on your left , we will now be on your left about 3 - 4 minutes down the road , look out for a house up on a hill this is where the gate is .

Common mistakes: turing into Ohariu road at Johnsonville , turning at the crossroads in Ohariu Valley or shooting past the gate .

You should bring:

Your camera, sensible outdoor clothing, hayfever tablets, inhalers if required and sunglasses. In winter, dress warmly!
