Directions to Ohariu Farm( going on a treasure hunt !!)

  • If coming from Wellington or the Hutt
Up Nagaranga Gorge
Turn off at Johnsonville turn-off.
Drive through past McDonalds to the second roundabout.
Turn left onto Ironside Road - this takes you into Ohariu Valley.
Proceed to the Takarau Gorge , Rifle Range Road and Ohariu Road intersection.
Stop; Look at the street names.
Proceed straight ahead on to Takarau Gorge Road. ( DO NOT TURN ).
From the intersection, drive 1.84 kms, and Ohariu Farm will be on your right.
Drive up the driveway and follow the signs. ( do not mistake the old falling down woolshed as your conference or wedding venue!!)

  • If coming from the north

Turn off at Johnsonville and turn right at the first roundabout.
Then turn left at the second sign post, into Ironside Road (do not take Ohariu Road here).
Follow Ironside Road down into Ohariu Valley past McClintock Street North. Drive to the crossroads (7 minutes down). Go straight through. You are now on Takarau Gorge Road. We are 184 Takarau Gorge Road (signposted to Makara) which is approximately 1.84 kms down from the crossroads, on your right.

  • If coming from Makara

As you have driven through the gorge and drive over a small bridge with a woolshed on your left, Ohariu Farm is about 3 to 4 minutes from here on your left hand side. Look out for house on the hill and then the sign post on the fence which is where your turn off.

Common mistakes: Turning into Ohariu Road at Johnsonville OR turning at the crossroads into Ohariu Valley OR driving past us (please look out for the sign post on the fence).
